"Blue" (1.6 Meg) by Eiffel 65 was the Sound File Of The Month for January, 2001 at Sight N Sound.org.
Eiffel 65's 1999 album, Europop, is exactly what it's title suggests. A high energy, techno-beat driven, perfect to dance all night to collection of tunes. Well crafted lyrics and synth sounds reminiscent of the 1980's blend well with this 2K night club style music.

Eiffel 65 sure knows how to create music that makes you want to move. They are well tuned in presenting catchy hooks that stay in your head for hours. Perfect for the night club, any track on this CD is workable.
The opening track "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" was a huge radio success in the year 2000 with it's memorable melodies. "Too Much of Heaven" is a pleasing tune with vocals that remind me of the Bee Gee's or Hall and Oats. Recording Studio antics (throughout the album) with the vocal tracks delivers many entertaining and unique ear perking harmonies. "Dub In Life" has a beat and tone similar to a Donna Summer type of tune. "Living In A Bubble" starts out mellow before melding into a picture painting, infectious pop song. One of my favorites from this offering, "Living In A Bubble" could easily dominate the pop charts for a spell.
"Move Your Body" seems to be designed to do just that. If there were filler on this album, it would have to be this tune. "My Console" is a tribute to video games. Laced with power synth rythym and organ you just might hear your favourite video game mentioned in the lyrics. "Your Clown" is the ballad on the album and is pure Depeche Mode in sound, instrumentation, and vocals. Someone could have tricked me and said it was Depeche Mode and I would have bought it!
Picking the pace back up in a hurry "Another Race" is upbeat, fun, and quite memorable. "The Edge" has beatiful harmony and some likealbe choppy keystrokes and repeated samplings. "Now is Forever" could be called a ballad. It is a pretty tune supplied with a beat out of Anti-M's album Positively Negative and the momentum is maintained throughout. "Silicon World" is probably my favourite on the CD. It is full of likeable sound and forcefull beat. Vocals remind me of ELO's Time album and the melody could easily have been in a Madonna song. Great tune.
The track "Europop" is self explanitory. This tune could have fit right in with the soundtrack of Blade or the Matrix. A nice big tribute to Greg Hawkes, keyboardist for the Cars, lies within this tune. "Hyperlink (Deep Down) is second to last and probably rightly so. It's not a bad song, but compared to the others, it belongs at the end. The last song is the extended version of "Blue" which adds about 1 minute and a half.
In a nutshell, Europop is an outstanding album. Fresh with power throughout this album never loses momentum.
