"Til The Day I Die" by Garbage is the Sound File Of The Month for November, 2001 at Sight N Sound.org.
Tehno-Rock/Pop artists Garbage have released their third album - BeautifulGarbage. Healthy with trademark Garbage sound BeautifulGarbage delivers a few par songs but falls short on lyrical mystique that dominated their powerful second release Version 2.0. "Til The Day I Die" is a cool tune that perhaps gives a glimpse of what the Pretenders might sound like if a new 2K sound invaded their writings.Pretenders voice Chrissie Hynde is even saluted in the liner notes.
"Shut Your Mouth", "Androgyny", "Till The Day I Die", & "Cherry Lips" deliver a familiar Garbage sound that was handled better on Version 2.0, they are the upbeat strengths of the album, nonetheless. There are four meloncholy ballads evenly spaced throughout with "So Like A Rose" (perhaps) being the best. There are at least three tracks that while likable after repeated listening, are ultimately filler. "Parade", while likeable with a catchy hook, parrallels the latest Collective Soul sound (particularly "You Speak My Language").
With elementary (and sometimes juvenile) lyrics BeautifulGarbage should appeal to the millions of teens out there. Although a "must have" for the avid Garbage fan, a first time listener may try their 1998 release Version 2.0 packed with instantly infectious vibes. Despite being a step above Garbage's first release, Newbies should allow some warming up to BeautifulGarbage.
